This Pyramid of Barrels Uses Colorful Mirrors to Reflect Nature

Brooklyn-based artist Mark Reigelman created this stunning pyramid of barrels in Louisville, Kentucky. The artist decided to use barrels as a symbolic representation of the city. The lumber-made drums were all handcrafted using salvaged wood from the surrounding nature-filled landscape.

The structure of barrels begins with six of the wooden drums laying side by side in a horizontal fashion. Each layer eliminates one barrel until there is a single point at the top of the pyramid. All of the barrels have been re-faced with a colorful mirror. The mirrors are displayed in vibrant colors and consist of bold hues that include purple and green. Each face reflects the landscape within the colored frame to provide a unique view of the city’s iconic riverfront.

The installation aims to represent the historical past of Louisville through the use of the barrels, while simultaneously projecting the future within the mirrored faces.
