President Nicolas Sarkozy's 2030 Vision for ‘Grand ParisR

President Nicolas Sarkozy of France is determined to architecturally redesign the capital as the ‘Grand Paris’ Metropolis, and he’s enlisted winners of Le Grand Paris de l’Agglomération Parisienne to do it.

Trend Hunter has covered some of the green initiates introduced by President Sarkozy before, but as more designs are unveiled, we’re eager to stay on top of new developments.

When the Paris renovation is completed, it will be the world’s first city conforming with the Kyoto treaty. Architects selected by President Nicolas Sarkozy for the redesign of Paris include Roland Castro, Richard Rogers, Bernardo Secchi, Jean Nouvel and Djamel Klouche.

In addition to making Paris greener, President Sarkozy is planning better low-income housing, better layouts for the suburbs (including improved public transit systems) and an overall more "compact, sustainable city," according to Rogers.

The New York Times has a fascinating audio slideshow accompanying the piece by architecture critic Nicolai Ouroussoff.
