Apple's Newsstand App Revitalizes Print Magazines and Ensures Convenience

In an industry where subscription-based models are almost impossible to sustain, print magazines are left with one viable option to distribute and broadcast their content: Apple's Newsstand app. From where I stand, however, it's a pretty great option.

Newsstand eschews the boring list format of most magazine apps and uses a virtual bookstore instead. Simply pay a small fee to subscribe to your favorite magazines -- which is almost certainly available in the iTunes store -- and you'll be greeted each week by the scheduled, virtual publication. Using the cloud functionality of the new iOS software, users will be able to conveniently download the issues while they walk to work or eat breakfast! What's intriguing about the application, however, is that it gives modern magazines a great place to sell their content, which is particularly exciting in a collapsing industry with few realistic exits.
