New York Fashion Week Fall Coverage

The third most fashionable day of 2008 so far took place in NYC for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week today. Designers showing their Fall 2008 collections on February 3, 2008 included a diverse mix of international talent. The afternoon shows still drew in crowds despite the Super Bowl, but turn-up probably would have been higher with more convenient scheduling.

The featured video is from the Rock & Republic show last night, complete with live orchestra to set the mood for the modern glam gangster style, complete with fedoras and trench coat for that mysteries mafia look. A hot look, with a mysteriously dark color palette of blacks and aubergine, though it could have done without the holsters and toy guns.

The first show today was Lela Rose which took place at 10 a.m. at the Salon followed by Herve Leger by Max Azria at the Promenade. After lunch, DKNY showed their latest collection at Greenwich Street at 1 p.m. Donna Karan was followed by Twinkle by Wenlan, Tracy Reese, Diana von Furstenberg, Y-3 at Pier 40, then it was Angel Sanchez at 6 p.m. followed by Tuleh. At 8 p.m., Miss Sixty held an extravagant show at the Tents at Bryant Park, and Terexov closed the show at 9 p.m. at Salon.

Lela Rose - "The Dallas-based Lela Rose tried to walk a fine line with her fall collection presented Sunday: They were clothes for real life — tweed skirts and a sweatshirt dress — but with more sparkle than most women normally have in their wardrobe," wrote the Associated Press. "One of the trends emerging at the Bryant Park tents are strapless dresses, and Rose had her fair share."

Herve Leger by Max Azria - "Max Azria brought back the bandage look of Herve Leger and outfitted rock starlets Joss Stone and Mandy Moore in the signature style in his front row," SeattliePi.com wrote.

DKNY - Donna Karan brought back the 70s in a truly chic, modern way. The hip fashions were geared much more toward young trendsetters than her other label, Donna Karan. "There was a '70s vibe to the bow blouses, slouchy wide-leg pants and floaty peasant dresses, but what really stood out were the knits, especially fringed sweater dresses," the Associated Press wrote. A silk georgette fringed skirt looked like individual pieces of yarn — camel, purple, gold and red. Those same colors were featured in the silk prints used for balloon-hem minidresses and plaids on jackets."

Twinkle by Wenlan - Designer Wenlan Chia is best known for her knit wear, but the Taipei native proved she was capable of creating a whole lot. Team Sugar did a fabulous job capturing images of the stunning collection, which can be seen here.

Tracy Reese - This collection had an eclectic mix of glamourously hip patterns for a young, exciting vibe. She had splashes of bright colours mixed iwht all sorts of prints, pairing startling combos like black and pink. She used paisley several times too, boldly mixing it with animals patterns and florals for a modern-meets-retro style.

Diana von Furstenberg - The Jewish American fashion designer sought inspiration from the 1940s for her show which celebs like Susan Sarandon seemed to be impressed by. "Diane von Furstenberg favored retro glamour with an international flair, bucking just about every trend that seemed to be emerging at New York Fashion Week," the Associated Press detailed. "The first looks on her runway were inspired by wartime Berlin, including a glen-plaid blazer with blue satin elbow patches worn with a wool jersey illusion dress."

Y-3 - This is sporty line of clothes is a collaborative effort of Adidas and Yohji Yamamoto. This show drew in a lot of celebrities who decided to call this their last show of the day before heading to TV screens to take in the Super Bowl in the evening.

Angel Sanchez - This designer's fashions tend to be evening and bridal looks, with beautiful gowns brought out again for this show, just in time for wedding season.

Tuleh - While the Wisconsin native has no official site, his collection and bio can be seen at this link.

Miss Sixty - This very young and hip Italian label is loved by celebs like Ashley Olsen, Milla Jovovich, Paula Patton, Emma Roberts, and Vanessa Carlton who were all scheduled to be sitting front row at the how.

Terexov - A delicately feminine collection of dresses and skirts made of materials like silk and chiffon by Russian designer Aleksandr Terekhov.
