The Nebula Portable Arts Space was made by Andrew Maynard Architects for the artists of Art Day South. The group of 12 talented creatives suffer from intellectual disabilities that they feel have pushed their lives and work into the fringe of the urban environment and its culture. This project is intended to provide sanctuary, inspiration and a broader community around the members, in the core of the city.
Pictured here in Federation Square in Melbourne, Australia, the sustainably designed Nebula can be easily transported behind a vehicle once it's closed up compactly like a shipping container. Once parked in the desired location, the mobile workspace can unfold with its spectral awning walls to become a studio, a gallery or even a stage for performances.
