Data-Yielding Space Apps

The NASA Asteroid Hunter App is for the Citizen Scientist

Announced at SXSW 2015 in Austin, the new NASA Asteroid Hunter app is a neat way for space enthusiasts to continue learning about NASA's work and contribute to a real project.

The new app is the latest collaboration between NASA and Planetary Resources, a real asteroid hunting company that will use the data collected and analyzed by users with NASA.

The NASA Asteroid Hunter software is desktop enabled and encompasses a new algorithm that was created as a result of the Asteroid Grand Challenge that NASA announced at SXSW 2014, which concluded in November.

The app will allow individuals to analyze images taken with their own telescopes and is considered a reaction to the overwhelming number of asteroid-like objects circling Earth.
