Student researchers from the American University of Cairo have created an intriguing electro-spun nanofiber that can speed up the healing process of body wounds using honey.
Referred to as 'Nano Ebers,' this special new material is made from biodegradable nanofibers that contain a high concentration of natural honey. By adding a high concentration of honey through an electro-spinning process, the anti-bacterial properties found in this material are greatly increased to help decrease the time it takes for a wound to heal. This process also makes this material more air-permeable, which means that a wound is protected but also still able to breath and draw liquid away.
Alongside the use of honey, 'Nano Ebers' also contains silver nanoparticles to help skin heal faster, and anti-bacterial chitosan found naturally in shellfish exoskeletons that also helps to slow bleeding.
