Streets That Make Music

Honda's Avenue K in California

Honda had a stretch of road, the Avenue K, in a Californian desert town grooved so that the Lone Ranger theme song or Rossini's William Tell overture played as cars drove over it. It was engineered to play properly when driving Honda Civics at a precise speed of 55mph (88km/h).

However, the musical highway has fallen flat with the nearby residents of Lancaster. Although the sound is meant to be heard only by car occupants, the discordant sounds have kept them awake.

The publicity stunt in the US will last only 2 weeks as the local authorities will be paving over it soon.
