Accessible Multi-Generational Households

AZL Architects Designs a House That is Not Age-Specific

Lately, the multi-generational household has been a huge focus for architects. Perhaps more affordable in a sense, this type of dwelling recognizes the values of family and the practicality to live close to one's relatives when the option is available.

The latest venture in this category of housing is done by AZL Architects and the project is located in Nansong — a rural village in China. Dubbed the 'Song House,' the building spans across five stories. The multi-generational household is designed for a couple in their 50s, three of their older family members, as well as "guest rooms for the couple’s daughter and husband and their daughter." Given the fact that the residents are skewed toward the later stages of life, AZL Architects also outfit the contemporary multi-generational household with a discreet ramp for wheelchairs.
