Sprawling Nature Abodes

The Mountain View Home is Closely Related to the Landscape

Tim Stewart Architects designed the 'Mountain View Home,' a contemporary residence located in Queensland, Australia.

Located on a beautiful 5000-square-foot plot on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, the project responds to the clients' need for escaping the city. The architects arranged the home as a series of pavilions, which allow the views to be accessible throughout. Most specifically, the Glasshouse Mountains become a prominent visual feature. Externally, the horizontal roofline helps the house establish a relationship with the landscape.

The architects took care to arm the house with sustainable practices to reduce the home's overall environmental impact. For instance, the envelope can be open and closed, improving the home's natural ventilation and lessening the need for artificial temperature control. The client has complete control over the comfort in the home, while being able to enjoy the natural surroundings.
