Angular Wooden Family Retreats

This Mountain Lodge Cabin is Abstractly Unique and Comfortably Warm

Choosing to break away from the traditional timber structures associated with mountain lodge cabin getaways, the owners decided to get personal and add their Scandinavian heritage and a modernist touch to their cabin.

This mountain lodge cabin feels as warm as any other cabin, but unlike others, the contemporary and abstract structure is designed in a way to keep the residents connected to the surrounding landscape at all times.

Designed by American firm Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, this stunning wooden lodge is located at the Kicking Horse Mountain ski resort in Canada.

Named as one of the ten recipients of the American Institute of Architects' 2014 Housing Awards, this angular family retreat is surrounded by aspen and spruce trees.

"The clients desired a weekend gathering place for their active family of five that would allow for flexibility to accommodate larger groups of family and friends, and provide a direct connection to the outdoors for seasonal recreation," says the architect.
