Artistic Power Stations

This Moscow Power Station Will Be Transformer Into An Art Space

Renzo Piano Building Workshop, the famous Italian architecture firm, is embarking on an exciting new project that involves taking a Moscow power station and converting it into an art space. The project, which is due to be completed by early 2019, was commissioned by the V-A-C- Foundation, whose mandate it is to promote contemporary Russian art.

The GES2 power station is located in the Red October district near the Moskva River, and once provided electricity to the city. Now however, this iconic Moscow power station will be transformed into an art space complete with a sculptural garden, library, bookshop, cafe, auditorium and a main exhibition space that will host different events.

This project proves that old and obsolete buildings can indeed be of use, and can in fact lend a lot of character as reformed art spaces.
