Toyota and the Japan Aerospace Agency Will Create a Rover

It was announced that Toyota will be collaborating with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency to create a fuel cell moon rover. The project will be undertaken with the expectation to be ready for a mission that will occur in 2029. The agreement was signed and it outlines a time period of three years for joint research and development efforts.

Each year of the partnership will have a different focus, 2019 will look at finding technical requirements and testing individual parts. Following that 2021 will involve testing parts, but then working towards testing a moon rover prototype.

Current rover designs have it with a transportation capacity of 10,000 KM using recharging technology. The rover is currently set at dimensions of 20 feet long by 17 feet wide and extends 12.5 feet high. The moon rover in its current design also has six wheels.
