Esco Tool Updates Its COHOG® Split Frame Machine

Esco Tool has introduced a new line of modular tooling systems for its COHOG® Split Frame Machine — a device engineered to simultaneously part and bevel pipes.

The innovative modular tooling systems center on a straightforward trip mechanism and a set of interchangeable bevel modules that bolt directly onto a tool slide. This allows operators to switch between configurations. Esco Tool's solution employs two-sided TiN-coated blade inserts to extend the usable life of each cutting edge, and the tool slides are secured with a preset gib plate that minimizes lateral movement to promote smooth and vibration-free operation.

Available in eight sizes to accommodate pipe diameters ranging from two inches to 48 inches O.D., the machine utilizes clamps to self-square against the pipe, and a marked pin location on the trip mechanism ensures compatibility across all tool slides.

Trend Themes

  1. Modular Pipe Tooling — Modular tooling architectures reduce equipment changeover complexity and support more flexible field machining across varied pipe sizes and project requirements.
  2. Interchangeable Bevel Systems — Bolt-on bevel modules enable faster configuration shifts, creating potential for more standardized, scalable pipe preparation workflows in demanding industrial environments.
  3. Long-life Cutting Inserts — Two-sided coated blade inserts extend cutting-edge usability and point toward lower-consumable, higher-uptime machining models for pipe fabrication and maintenance.

Industry Implications

  1. Industrial Manufacturing — Advanced split frame machines support precision pipe processing, where modularity and vibration control can reshape productivity benchmarks for heavy-duty fabrication.
  2. Oil and Gas Infrastructure — Pipeline construction and maintenance benefit from self-squaring, size-flexible tooling systems that improve consistency in beveling and parting operations.
  3. Construction and Engineering — Large-scale mechanical contractors gain relevance from adaptable pipe machining platforms that align with prefabrication, jobsite efficiency, and tighter installation tolerances.
