'Recognition' at the Tate Britain is an Exhibition Curated by Technology

'Recognition' is the name of a new exhibition that's running at London's Tate Britain as an exploration of technology, art and science.

The exhibit uses artificially intelligent algorithms to interpret images and ultimately select contemporary journalism photographs to pair with century-old paintings. Over the course of three months, a large virtual gallery will be created, with daily comparisons made between news images from Reuters based on "visual and thematic similarities." As a result, what will be created is a unique archive that gives stunning comparisons of old and new representations of culture, people, technology of the times and art.

Recognition has been named the winner of the annual IK prize for digital innovation, an award that is supported by Microsoft this year.
