The inspiration for Veerle Symoens' mixed media collage portraits came from her work in journalism and PR. Her visual art started out as a collection of magazine content that caught her eye and eventually, she composed the clippings into entirely new images.
The photomontages combine unrelated magazine cut-outs in a striking way. One portrait is made of the faces of two different women but somehow still looks whole. Another image is of a woman resting against a couch but the artist uses the bodies of three women in completely different stances to make one identifiable figure.
Transforming her talents from her 9 to 5 job gave Symoens the opportunity to create artistic work that would eventually be featured in magazines, appear in art galleries and placed into the hands of paying art aficionados.
