Two Artists Showcase Their Hungry Imagination

Pierre Javelle and Akiko Ida just love playing with their food. Their photography series, ‘MINIMIAM’ incorporates their interest in gourmet food and miniature worlds to create playful storylines.
The series portrays tiny figurines in make belief worlds, constructed by everyday household food items. Javelle and Ida recognize our dreams of hypostatizing food-like diving into chocolate-and they depict a whole world where all of our senses are fulfilled. Their food photography creates stories from puns; such as men pumping air into raisins to create grapes. Another photograph depicts artist Michelangelo carving away the shell of a peanut to free the sculpture within. This clever and expressive form of art-which captures peoples attention and engages them in ingenuity-should inspire us to take a closer look at what is possible, and maybe continue to play around with our food a little more.
