As we all know, newspapers come from wood that has been finely broken down and mixed with certain chemicals. What designer Mieke Dingen did was reverse that process and turn newspaper into wood again that could be used for a variety of purposes.
Mieke Dingen does this through a very meticulous and long process of the pieces of newspaper so that the created the grain patterns seen in pieces of wood. He uses a strong clamp to press the newspaper pieces extremely tight together so that they remain strong after drying. Dutch design label Vij5 teamed up with Mieke Dingen to help make some furniture items out of the recycled newspaper wood. The end result is amazing and could definitely be the future of recycling newspapers.
