Michelin Has Created an Air-Free Tire Called Uptis

In an effort to eliminate flat and punctured tires, Michelin created an airless tire design. The company has developed a prototype that is titled Uptis, which stands for Unique Puncture Proof Tire System.

The tire is designed for use in cars, as well as small SUVs, it was made using an aluminum wheel assembly that is wrapped in a composite mixing rubber material, as well as a high strength resin-embedded fiberglass. Wheres conventional tires use air to support the weight of the car, this design uses a series of air-filled rubber tubes, or spokes.

Apart from the fact that drivers would not have to check tire pressure, the design sees an improvement in fuel efficiency, as well as environmental benefits. Michelin is aiming to launch the airless tire by 2024.
