The Mela System Allows Users to Collaborate on Smartphone Films

The Mela system is currently being developed by Israeli entrepreneurs Sharon Sheinberg and Meir Ben-Shitrit. For those who download the application, which is now available on iTunes, users can upload their videos via the platform. Hashtags are then use to aggregate those videos, creating collaborative clips that borrow from several different accounts.

Mela also lets its users pick and choose from 15 second-long reels of recorded film. Whoever uploads the film then gets to choose a 2.5 second-long series which is placed within a lengthy video stream.

Separating this application from others is its communal approach. Although videos are often uploaded individually from smartphones, it allows footage to form part of a shared, interactive feed.
