'Dystopian Brutalist Outerwear' is a collection of black rain garments by Martijn Van Strien that uses inexpensive materials to form architecturally-inspired shapes.
What's truly interesting about the Dutch designer's rain gear is that each piece is made from tarpaulin that has only been modified with "straight cuts and sealed seams." In addition to creating a unique sculptural form for each garment, the pieces are easy to manufacture. In case of society's downfall, Van Strien notes that these items would be necessities to provide that extra layer of protection.
Van Strien describes his pieces as "fortresslike and blockish," since the uniform black garments are intimidating and a little harsh. The dynamic black and white photography by Imke Ligthart adds even more of an impact to these striking garments.
