Mechanized Mixology Machines

The Makr Shakr is a Robotic Bartender That Can Make Almost Anything

The Makr Shakr bartender was first debuted at Milan design week in 2013 but the company has finally updated its robotic bartender and released a mass-market version of the mechanized mixologist. Designed by Italian architect Carlo Ratti and produced by his company Makr Shakr, the robotic bartender has the ability to mix an almost infinite variety of cocktails from its 170 bottles of spirits stored in an overhead rack. Customers can place their order through an accompanying app and can either choose between existing recipes or craft something unique using the available spirts.

According to Ratti, the robotic bartender is able to "precisely prepare and elegantly serve any drink in seconds." This is accomplished thanks to two robotic arms, with one being focused on shaking, stirring and muddling, and the second for pouring and serving. The Makr Shakr is not meant to replace human bartenders but instead teaches people how to interact with the machines that will one day be integrated into daily life.
