The Magnetophone by Aaron Sherwood is a sculpture that melds art and music into one. Although music can be considered an art form in and of itself, this sculpture takes it to the next level. It is only natural that a musician turned artist is the one who created it.
Made up of 14 guitar strings and 14 electromagnets, the Magnetophone by Aaron Sherwood emits continuously generative, electromagnetic fields that cause those strings to vibrate, which makes a sound. Measuring three feet tall, it's made primarily from aluminum and acrylic. It is embedded with an Arduino chip that alternates between two modes: a random sequence of strings or patterns with certain strings that continue looping the same melody for a short period.
