The Magic Gap Examines a Peculiar Body Fixation

Fashion photographer Guy Aroch used his signature sun-kissed filter to shoot 'The Magic Gap,' a short film for NOWNESS' weekly #DefineBeauty series.

Aroch's submission to the series explores the the thigh-gap obsession. He explains, "It was more a comment on the mysterious fixation women have, because as a male, I didn’t even know it was a thing."

The film features shots of model's pelvises amidst a dreamy, 1970s-hued New York landscape. Aroch asked passers-by to define the elusive "magic gap," without specifying that he was referring to a thigh-gap. His intent was to be as unobtrusive -- almost borderline voyeuristic -- as possible while making the film. He notes that a whopping 99% didn't give him the answer he was looking for, though he didn't bother correcting them after the fact.
