The online marketplace kicked off its authentication program in late 2020 with watches and sneakers and it is being expanded to change the way people sell other luxury goods on the platform. According to Charis Márquez, VP of fashion at eBay, "There’s a handbag bought every 12 seconds on our marketplace, and now we’re expanding authentication to deliver an additional layer of trust and confidence for these shoppers and sellers."
A team of professionally trained authenticators will be responsible for vetting and verifying the authenticity of the new and pre-owned luxury handbags on eBay and the items that meet the requirements will be backed by a guarantee.
