The Electric Flavoring Fork Helps Those on Low Sodium Diets

Designed to help those on low-sodium diets still maintain a sense of flavor in their food, the Electric Flavoring Fork works with electricity to mimic the sensation of salty food.

Created at the Rekimoto Lab, Interfaculty Initiative in Information Studies at the University of Tokyo, the Electric Flavoring Fork was developed by Hiromi Nakamura.

The Electric Flavoring Fork works by sending a small electric current to the end of the fork that enters the mouth. When it makes contact with the tongue, the electric current dispelled creates the sensation of salty food.

Currently in prototyping phases, the Electric Flavoring Fork shows significant promise for those on low-sodium diets to get their fix of salt without actually having any.
