Dutch Railways Has a Shop That Sells Its Lost and Found Objects

Winter is the time for more lost-and-found objects than ever, from mitts and hats that are forgotten or dropped in transit. But Dutch Railways has come up with an interesting way to deal with the 80,000 items that are turned in each year.

This year, students from the Artemis Academy in Amsterdam and Rotterdam created the ‘Lost & Found Project,’ which puts items that have been turned in and unclaimed up for sale after they had been reinvented by the students and designers. This included objects like a skateboard turned into a bookshelf and a pair of gloves made out of old clothes. Sales from these artful objects will go towards Natuur & Milieu, an organization that works towards sustainability.
