Repurposed Solar Booths

These London Phone Booths are Being Turned Into Green Charging Kiosks

People are using pay phones less and less, which is why Solarbox is repurposing a selection of London phone booths into solar charging stations. Conceived by London School of Economics graduates Kirsty Kenney and Harold Craston, Solarbox provides London with a carbon-neutral energy source. The solar-powered booths will let Londoners charge their devices such as phones and tablets.

The iconic red London phone booths will be painted green to distinguish them in the Tottenham Court Road area. Starting October 1st, the kiosks will be installed with solar panels, USB and phone charging outlets. The whole operation is also free to users because costs are offset by indoor advertising. A wall-mounted tablet plays paid content so people needing a battery boost have something to watch while their devices recharge.
