This month, the grocery chain Loblaw will be introducing a quick home delivery service in Toronto and if successful, the service will extend to Vancouver early next year.
The new service comes in a partnership between Loblaw and Instacart, and "will deliver groceries from Loblaws, Real Canadian Superstore, and T&T stores." Each of these deliveries will take less than an hour from point of purchase to delivery, and the service was created in order to convenience time-strapped customers. If successful, the service will eventually expand to the rest of Canada.
As retailers now feel a greater sense of urgency in competing with Amazon's rising dominance, grocery services such as this are a step in the right direction – allowing smaller retailers to better compete with the e-commerce giant.
