The LM3D Swim is a vehicle, being designed by Arizona-based company Locol Motors, that is set to become the first 3D-printed electric car to ever be brought to market. Indeed this vehicle is an audacious demonstration of the speed at which 3D-printing and additive manufacturing can bring ideas to tangible reality.
The vehicle's electric drivetrain includes a core of battery cells that go right up the middle of the body. The cells are protected from road impacts by around 4 inches of protective underside hull. Approximately 75 percent of the vehicle will be 3D printed, including the chassis and body panels.
The LM3D Swim is truly a revolutionary vehicle, and one that is taking 3D-printing forward and giving us new ideas on what additive manufacturing can do for us in the realm of automotive engineering.
