Minimal Line Portraits

These Simple Illustrations Feature Iconic Pop Culture Characters

India-based artist Soundar Raj created this series of simple line portraits that directly mimic pop culture icons. Each image provides a true representation of a famous individual through minimal drawings using single outlines.

This technique titled "Chennai" is one that involves using the most minimal amount of strokes possible. The technique is difficult to master yet Raj’s images are all accurate portrayals of famous faces such as Michael Jackson, Steve Jobs and Barack Obama.

This artist is able to take some of the most legendary public figures from music to science and politics and create an honorable tribute using simple line strokes. Each of the line portraits is drawn with black lines and placed on top of a colorful background that best reflects each character.
