The 'Like-A-Hug' Jacket is Linked to Facebook

The 'Like-A-Hug' jacket is the latest bit of social media-themed apparel to enter the technology scene. Specialists at the MIT Media Lab conceived of the concept which links Facebook updates to the fit of the coat.

For every "Like" that one receives on a photo, video or status, the vest in turn inflates, producing a hug-like sensation. The loving, warm qualities of hugs are deemed to be similar here to the way online users interpret these Likes, drawing parallels between the two via fashion.

Like-A-Hug is also based on the group's interest in long distance relationships. Skype chats can often be unsatisfying for separated lovers. This physical design alters that experience by introducing the notion of telepresence, allowing boyfriends and girlfriends to have a physical effect on one another from afar.
