Designed by the MATSYS architectural company, the Shellstar Pavilion is a temporary, lightweight construction that adds illumination and vibrancy to an outdoor setting.
Commissioned for the Detour art and design festival in Hong Kong, the structure, as described by MATSYS, "maximizes its spatial performance while minimizing structure and material." With the use of minimalist materials such as translucent Coroplast, nylon cable ties and steel arch reinforcements, the builders were able to make flat pieces that were then easy to transport and connect together to form the looming design that arches dramatically over the space.
The perforated design allows for sunlight to filter through the lightweight construction by day and emit a softly glowing light from within the Shellstar Pavilion by night.
