The Liège Ice Rink is a whale-resembling structure designed by L’Escaut – Weinand. The team from L’Escaut Architects and Bureau d’études Weinand have joined forces to create an impressive and Ocean-inspired pavilion that houses an Olympic sized ice rink.
Located in the heart of Liège, Belgium, this project is built atop a former industrial site and overlooks the river Meuse. This curvilinear structure blends into its surrounding industrial backdrop and is constructed out of metal-made materials. Acting as its acoustic barrier, the building's facade reduces noise from the site's busy surrounding community.
Moreover, the Liège Ice Rink accommodates 1800 skaters, seats 1200 people and maintains a temperature of 16 celsius all year round despite of outdoor heat brought on by seasonal changes.
