The Le Labo 1.0 Collection Uses Remeltable Wax Shades for Reuse

The Le Labo 1.0 collection is a lighting series by Paris-based Baguette Studio that uses interchangeable wax lampshades and a shared stainless-steel structure. The Le Labo 1.0 collection includes a wall lamp, pendant lamp, and table lamps in two sizes. Each shade is made from either 400 or 800 grams of a custom blend of beeswax and plant-based wax. The shades can be melted down and remoulded into different forms without material loss, allowing users to reconfigure the lamps using the same wax and hardware components.

Baguette Studio developed the collection using a custom-built rotational moulding machine designed as an alternative to industrial-scale production systems. The wax material is entirely natural and can withstand temperatures of up to 100 degrees Celsius. Production involves melting wax pellets and rotating liquid wax inside a mould until a hollow form is created. All lamp types use the same stainless-steel base and electrical components, reducing the need for additional materials when changing configurations.

Trend Themes

  1. Modular Material Systems — Reconfigurable hardware paired with interchangeable material components enabling long-lived products that adapt form without replacing core electronics or structures.
  2. Remeltable Consumer Goods — Products Built From Thermoplastic Or Natural Remeltable Materials That Allow End-User Material Recovery And Reuse Instead Of Single-Use Disposal.
  3. Localized Micro-manufacturing — Small-Scale, Purpose-Built Production Equipment Designed For Flexible Runs And On-Demand Fabrication Close To End Users.

Industry Implications

  1. Lighting and Home Decor — Designs That Separate Premium Electronics From Replaceable Aesthetic Elements, Allowing Style Updates Through Reusable Material Components.
