Laptop Fuel Cells

Soon, you'll be able to work or watch DVDs on your laptop for an entire transatlantic flight.

Taiwanese tech company Antig recently announced that its new fuel cells for laptop computers would be on store shelves by early 2007. The devices should power laptops for up to nine hours.

The fuel cells combine the familiar lithium-ion batteries with methanol-based technology. Rather than simply storing power, the fuel cells generate electricity by breaking methanol down through an electrochemical process. They can be recharged with fresh methanol cartridges. The new devices are compatible with existing laptops and fit into the media bay.
