Ian Macleod Distillers opened Laggan Bay Distillery on Islay and filled its first cask on 2 April 2026, introducing a new single malt made with a focus on clarity of spirit and balanced flavour. The family-owned company created the site to produce a distinctive Islay expression, featuring local inputs and a team led by distillery manager Malcolm Rennie.
The project followed planning approval in 2022 and a delayed timetable, but the opening made Laggan Bay the island's 11th distillery. The facility was sited beside the windswept Laggan Bay and uses wetlands for liquid waste management as part of a sustainability approach. Ian Macleod said the distillery will add to Islay’s range rather than replicate it, and the brand plans to detail its cask program and releases as the whisky matures.
