Kid's Republic in Beijing Offers a Fun Way to Learn

Kids in Beijing sure are lucky; they get to go to Kid's Republic -- a children's bookstore with an innovative, playgroundlike design -- not only to read but also to play.

Designed by Keiichiro Sako of SKSK Architects, Kid's Republic is China's first specialized children's bookstore. In addition to being stocked with picture books, this imaginative store mimics the look of a fantasyland with its elaborate use of color and fun design elements. For example, a ribbon with rainbow colors all over it streams, twists and whirls throughout the store, and there is an activity area where children can enjoy animated shows and storytelling or participate in the Reader's Club, which offers children fun, reading-related activities.

According to The Retail Blog, Kid's Republic's goal is to to make Chinese and foreign children's books available to both children and their parents in addition to an environment where they can relax and read.
