Kathy Klein Creates Art in a Meditative Devotional Mindset

Inspired by both nature and mandalas, a Hindu and Buddhist religious and traditional art form, Kathy Klein creates stunning works of art that she has dubbed 'danmalas.' Danmala is a blending of two words in Sanskrit: dān (the giver) and mālā (garland of flowers).

By using a variety of vibrant, natural materials such as fruits, vegetables and of course flowers, Kathy Klein creates these pieces by arranging all materials in a circular pattern that happens to be very similar to Qi Wei's Exploded Flowers series. Yet, it is through much religious contemplation that Kathy Klein's creations are conceived. As her website states, "She creates the danmalas by first centering herself in a meditative devotional space...Then, through an act of grace and giving to all, she allows the materials to fall to the will of creation patterns."
