The Kanye West 'Cruel Summer' Theater Boasts Seven Screens

It is hard to say what is more impressive, the Kanye West 'Cruel Summer' film that recently premiered at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival or the unusual theater that it was viewed in. The custom-made pyramid pavilion boasted seven different screens to create an immersive experience from ceiling to floor, literally. Despite the strange movie plot (a Lamborghini thief falls in love with a blind Muslim girl, whose father will only allow them to marry if he can help her see), the venue certainly stole the show.

Designed by Rotterdam-based architecture firm OMA and led by Shohei Shigematsu, the Kanye West Cruel Summer theater looks like it is hovering in midair when in fact short glass walls wrap around its perimeter to create this illusion. The screens themselves were invented by West’s creative team, Donda.
