Joanne Nam is an Artist with a Penchant for Quiet, Pensive Moments

Korean born, California-based illustrator Joanne Nam is an artist with a penchant for capturing life's quiet, reflective and sad moments in her artwork.

Looking through Joanne Nam's portfolio, it's hard not to feel a connection to her subjects. Many of them tend to be pale to the point of translucent, out in nature, surrounded by trees and foliage, or accompanied by animals, both big and small.

The attention to detail and direct yet complex nature of Joanne Nam's work is no accident. She is a recent graduate of the Art Center College of Design in Pasdena, California and it shows. Her work has an assured and personal touch to it that augurs well for her future.

My favorite painting in the Joanne Nam portfolio is one that features a pale young man in a white t-shirt, looking at what appears to be a bug in his hand. The image is melancholy, existential and exquisitely rendered. It's a perfect encapsulation of the kind of work Joanne Nam excels in.
