'SPARK' architects created this whimsical structure titled 'Jianzi Pavilion.' The entire hut-like building is comprised of 15,000 feather balls.
The goal for this project is to highlight a public space in a wonderfully creative way. The 'Jianzi Pavilion' is located in Beijing and was erected for the annual Beijing Design Week 2015. The idea for this unique feathered pavilion is to stimulate the viewer's mind and increase verbal interactions among visitors.
The structure stands where an empty plot of land used to sit in the Baitasi district. The impromptu pavilion is essentially a series of platforms and a steel frame structure that is intricately decorated with playful feather balls, which are a unique and non-traditional architectural material. Along with these feathers, there are numerous swings suspended from the steel frame that transform the space into a playground.
