Upcycling Weapons of Conflict in Cambodia and in Laos

In Laos and in Cambodia, Purple Buddha Project works with the local artisans to upcycle weapons of conflict from into jewelry. We respectfully argue that employment is stronger, more stable, and more sustainable than any other form of aid. Employment gives assistance in multiple streams in comparison to donations and aid which lack versatility. With that in mind, we coordinate partner cooperatives that employ disabled or disadvantaged artisans from Laos and Cambodia with designers from Japan. The artisans located in Laos and in Cambodia are employed by the cooperatives with fair-trade wages to handcraft our jewelry pieces. Molds and castings from Tokyo, Japan are sent to our producers in Phonm Penh, Cambodia; and in Xiengxhoang, Laos for production.
As the most bombed countries in the history of mankind (will take over 800 years to clear all of Laos), Laos and Cambodia often struggle to progress and deal with this problem simultaneously. Each jewelry piece is handcrafted by an artisan upcycled from UXOs, bullet shells, and bomb casings from Laos and Cambodia previously used as weapons of conflict.
With Kickstarter, Purple Buddha Project looks to fund their production, of which all is sourced through our fair-trade partner cooperatives whom also assisted us in the production of our Kickstarter promotion video. Backers can choose from a range of rewards, including other recycled jewelry pieces from the line.
With a purchase of a jewelry piece, Purple Buddha Project pledges a donation that goes back to Cambodia and Laos where the weapons of conflict originally afflicted, for the removal of UXOs from 3 meters of land.
