Most people associate skulls and skeletons with ominous themes, but it’s hard to stare at these images by Jesse Johanning and not be filled with energetic awe. The Chicago-based illustrator has taken photographs of notable skulls and traced over them with meshes to produce purple-hued polygonal renderings of fleshless heads. The results are stunning images that have a digital look while retaining a highly organic and earthy feel due to its subjects.
But Jesse Johanning wasn’t simply satisfied with just giving skeletons a more flat geometric look. Continuing his project, he converted these pictures into halftones and then made screen prints of the entire series. He titled this collection ‘Halftone Polygons.’
Though Johanning doesn’t have much up on his web portfolio currently, I’m sure many are waiting with anticipation to see what he comes up with next.
