Modernized Japanese Furniture

Jo Nagasaka Uses Traditional Techniques to Build Modern Pieces

Jo Nagasaka has used traditional techniques to build this modern Japanese furniture. Two ideas were employed to make the pieces: Take Kago and Shibari. The former uses bamboo and weaving, whereas the latter uses the tying of string. Nagasaka has used both of these techniques to create this collection.

Overall the furniture is extremely lightweight, and all handcrafted. No machinery was used to build the pieces, which adds to this artisanal craftsmanship quality of the collection. The designer also experimented with a number of different pieces, including lights, a bench and baskets to name a few.
