Sky Changing Light Shows

James Turrell 'Twilight Epiphany' Complements the Sun's Patterns

The James Turrell 'Twilight Epiphany' is breathtakingly light. The world renowned artist James Turrell was commissioned by Rice University in Houston, Texas to create this beautiful sky space. Turrell has been working over the past four decades creating sky spaces worldwide, with this building being one of his largest. Officially opening this month, the pyramid-like structure serves as a multifaceted piece of art for the campus.

Each day, the building provides two light shows working in correlation with the arc of the sun. The shows occur at sunrise and sunset, while visitors use the viewing area to look through a 14-by-14-foot opening at the sky. By staring up, visitors are taken away by the various LED light colors being projected onto the building's ceiling. These lights work to influence how they see the sky during the sunrise and sunset. The project works to create a beautiful show that integrates nature and technology.
