Anatomy-Revealing Garments

Karen Shechori's Prints at the Istituto Marangoni Show are Gutsy

Karen Shechori's collection at the 2013 Istituto Marangoni Graduate Fashion show made the models seem like they were wearing X-ray machines instead of garments. The talented young designer played with colorful fabrics printed with innards. Although it sounds quite grotesque, the prints borrowed from scientific depictions of the human form, like one would find in an anatomy textbook.

Shechori experimented with the concept of layering on several levels. She plays with transparencies and alike skin, the layers of fabric work to provide extra protection. And the anatomically correct placements of prints creates simulated transparencies. Neutral grays form the backdrop for the show-stopping patterns. This is seen in one garment that pairs a cutout print of the inner workings of the lungs on a muted grey top.
