Although islands don't go missing too often (forget about the pop culture TV show phenomenon 'Lost' for a second), that is just what the Is Land art installation managed to do on July 24, 2011. A stunning sculpture on its own, it is now making headlines around the world as people search the skies for this runaway island.
Created by Sarah Cockings and Laurence Symonds, recent Royal College of Art graduates, the Is Land installation was deployed at the Secret Garden Party music festival in Cambridgeshire, England. The approximately $14,500 (£9,000) helium-filled sculpture measures 7 meters wide and looks like one of those floating islands from James Cameron's 'Avatar' movie.
'Is Land' is made of durable polyurethane with foliage decor and was built over six months.
