Irma Boom teamed up with Benthem Crouwel Architects to beautify Amsterdam Central Station's Cuyperspassage tunnel. The corridor connects the transit station with the surrounding city and waterfront and is celebrated with a stunning 18th century mural.
In an effort to connect commuters across Amsterdam, Irma Boom and Benthem Crouwel Architects teamed up to reimagine Cornelis Bouwmeester's iconic seascape painting -- currently on display at the Rijksmuseum -- into a tiled masterpiece. The result is an artistic tunnel that was crafted with over 70 000 Delft Blue wall and floor tiles.
In addition to celebrating Dutch history and one of Cornelis Bouwmeester's most recognized works, this project also connects Amsterdam's public transit commuters with cyclists and pedestrians who also travel the same route.
