Rocco Giovannoni's Inmergo Headphones Provide an Immersive Experience

The Inmergo headphones by Royal College of Art graduate Rocco Giovannoni boast a soft, water-filled design that aims to improve upon current bone conduction technology. The waterproof speakers are immersed in a liquid and sealed in a flexible membrane, making it possible for sound to be transmitted through the skull to the cochlea by vibrations.

While bone conduction headphones are useful to some, they tend to sacrifice sound quality—Inmergo sets itself apart by offering a high-fidelity audio experience that Giovannoni describes as "immersive omnidirectional" sound. According to those who have tested Inmergo, the design creates an unparallelled listening experience that feels as though you're right within a song.

There are two functional prototype models and the designer hopes to continue to refine the patent-pending design.
